Direct messages, groups, and feeds, routed through cMixx on the xx network. A message is sealed on your device before it leaves, then mixed in transit with everyone else's. By the time it arrives, the network has forgotten who sent it.
With a share code. Everything starts with one — someone's code to open a direct message, a room's code to join a group, a feed's code to follow it. Paste it, or scan its QR with your phone.

Not by looking. There is no directory to search, no list of people to appear in, and no name to type — a codename is worked out from its owner's keys rather than reserved in a register, so there is nothing in the app that could turn one into a person.
The app never asks for your contacts, so nobody is matched to you out of somebody else's address book. People reach you because you handed them a code, or because they have seen you post in a room you are both in — posting puts your codename in front of that room, and anyone there can write to you directly.
By being answered. There are no read receipts, no seen-by list, and no view counts — nobody is told when you read a message, and you are not told when they read yours.
On a feed, a reply is the only response a post can receive: no likes, no reposts, no reactions. The replies under a post are the only tally it carries, and only once there are some — turning off Show replies in feed collapses them altogether.
In a direct message or a room, somebody can react with an emoji, which is the one way you learn a message landed without being answered. A single reaction is the emoji alone; a number appears beside it only when somebody else picks the same one.
No. You choose a passphrase, pick a codename, and that is the whole of it — no email address, no phone number, nothing to verify. Your identity lives on your device.
Settings → Export identity writes one encrypted file, behind a passphrase you choose. It carries your codename and its keys, the groups and feeds you belong to, who you have blocked, and your per-room settings.
Keep it somewhere safe, and somewhere off the device — it does not survive uninstalling the app, which is one of the things it exists to recover from. There is no account for anyone to reset, so this file is the only way back.
The same file is how you add a device. Export on your desktop, then choose I have an export the first time you open the app on your phone: it adopts the identity there and rejoins its groups and feeds.
Because these builds are not signed yet. Every system shows a warning for software carrying no signature it recognises, so you will see one the first time — it is about the missing signature, not about the file.

Not publicly yet — but you can join the test. Two steps, both with the Google account you use on your phone: join the testers group, then open the opt-in page and choose Become a tester.
It asks two things of you — an Android phone, and the app left installed for fourteen days. Use it when you can. Leaving early restarts the count.
iOS. The app runs on it, but there is no way yet to hand a build to someone else's iPhone, so there is nothing on the download page for it.
Everything else is early. It works, and it is unfinished — expect rough edges, and expect things to change between builds.
